A Camcorder is a portable and handy digital device consisting of a CAMERA and RECORDER. It is widely used for recording both video and audio (motion pictures with sound) of any event / occasion like for internet or personal use. The audio quality of a camcorder is important for effective recording for true replay of any event and hence the need to focus on audio performance.
Instructions
STEP 1. Find the location of the microphone built in on the body of the camcorder. Refer to the operating manual if required.
STEP 2. Ensure that the hand / fingers holding the camcorder is not covering the microphone. Otherwise audio recording gets suppressed.
STEP 3. Adjust the audio to optimum levels (as recommended by the manufacturer) if the camcorder has a manual audio control. This is vital if soft or loud sound is being recorded like in a music concert.
STEP 4. Insert external mikes along with stereo mini jack adapter in the external audio in or mike input jack for best audio performance.
STEP 5. Test the audio performance by doing a trial recording. Make adjustments like distance and position of the camcorder if needed.
Tips
1. When buying a camcorder, make sure it has an external mike input jack.
2. Since the camcorder mike inputs are stereophonic, ensure that the external mike is connected through a stereo mini jack adapter.
3. Keep or position the external mike as close to the subject as possible (may be with assistance from a helper). The audio quality of a camcorder is equally important as video. Use external mike for better results. Since camcorder built in mikes are stereo, use mini stereo jack adapters while using an external mike. If the built in mike of the camcorder is on top or facing up, breathing sound of the person holding the camcorder gets recorded.
