The City of Hartford offers its residents and other citizens of Connecticut, New England and New York some fine summer activities at a cost of exactly nothing. While Hartford might not have a stellar reputation as a trendy place in which to live or as the top tourist city in the nutmeg state, it will serve you well not to turn your back too quickly on what the City of Hartford holds out for you and your family in terms of free summer activities in Hartford, Connecticut.

If your kids are school aged for example, summer can be a wonderful time to take a day here or there to introduce your kids to the real workings of Connecticut State government. It is amazing how many children who live under the rule of state law never have the occasion to make a visit to the state capital or to any of the facilities that are central to the making of the very laws that govern all residents.

The State Capitol Building is open throughout the summer and welcomes you and your family to a tour that won't involve your wallet. Located, not coincidentally, at 210 Capitol Avenue, the State Capital Building can really help you to feel connected to the law making process of the state. Tours here last for a full hour and begin hourly starting at 9:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. During the summer months the State Capital puts on extra hours to accommodate summer visitors and has tours available from Monday - Saturday. Trained guides will direct you to the high points of the building and be ready to answer your questions.

Hi, Being a resident of Hartford, Connecticut, I pored over this article, expecting to see inaccuracies and/ or fluff. In the past, I have seen several articles pertaining to Hartford that were pretty cheesy. I am glad to say that your article is factual, relevant and fun to read. I particularly like the way you covered Bushnell Park. Did you visit Hartford recently ? Thomas
