Realization

I came to the realization that
Life is not as it seems
What once may have been
No longer is
I came to the realization that
People are not who I thought they were
Love hurts too much to handle
Relationships need a stronger ground to stand on
And fantasies never become real
I came to the realization that
My heart twists things around
It only wishes for the best
But that comes with pain
When the best is never true
I came to the realization that
I have known all along
What is real and what is not
But with trying to keep the best
I failed to accept it
I came to the realization that
I want to no longer make these mistakes
They only bring pain and sorrow
And I know the only thing to do is
Shield myself from that which hurts me
