A Hong Kong based company is seeking millions of Australian Feral donkey skins for manufacturing a traditional Chinese medicine, which is used to boost up libido in women.
According to Northern Territory News , this Hong Kong-based company has been purchasing donkey skins from South America. Recently it shifts its attention to
Australia.
An Australian exporter John Fleming assists this company for sourcing the feral donkey skins from Northern Territory region of Australia.
According to him, local people are shooting them for sport.
He also said that the company would not prepare leather from donkey's skin; the company uses it for preparing traditional medicine, which is used to boost up sexual drive in women.
The company manufactures an extract from the skin of donkey, which is known as Ejiao.
Chinese traditional healers prepare a medicine from this extract. The medicine is known as Nu Bao.
According to Chinese traditional healer, Nu Bao improves vitality and increase libido in women. It also helps to reduce menstrual pain.
There are about 3,00000 Feral donkeys in Northern Territory region of Australia.
John Fleming said that there are a lot of donkey skins, as much as they can get their hands on.
He estimated that each donkey hide would cost around $30.
