Sleep problems may be common, but insomnia should not last more than a few months. Adults need an average of 8 hours of sleep each night. However, most adults only get under seven hours of sleep. That can leave you feeling extremely groggy during the day.

Before you treat your insomnia, you should probably figure out what kind of insomnia you have. The first type of insomnia is primary insomnia. This is when your sleeplessness is not caused by any medical condition. The other type of insomnia is secondary insomnia. This is when a person cannot sleep due to a health condition.

Stress, anxiety, and depression may be a factor to your insomnia. Your first instinct is to go to the doctor for your sleeping problem. However, you should try these tips to recover your sleep cycle.

First of all, the things you shouldn't do before sleep is that you should not stay in bed after about 30 minutes if you can't fall asleep or if you cannot stay asleep. If you have been doing that all along your body has learned to do that every single night. You should stay away from caffeine within 8 to 10 hours of sleep. You really shouldn't eat or exercise within 3 hours of sleep. Both of those things may make it harder to fall asleep. You should also avoid alcohol before sleep because this might make you wake up during the night.

The things you should try to do before sleep is that you should find soothing activities such as reading or listening to soft music to help you fall asleep. You could try to cool off before going to bed. For example, take a hot shower for 30 to 45 minutes for sleep. As you body cools off after the shower, this helps the body calm down and fall asleep.
