A Healthier You : Turn Over A New Leaf This Holiday Season by Taking Care of Your Body

The end of one year nears and some of us look towards the next year with thoughts of becoming healthier. We look in the mirror and wonder what we can do to slim down, or get a healthy glow to our skin again. There are simple things we can do to improve our health.

Brain

Let us start at the top of our body, our head. How can we become healthier in our thinking? Do you tend to bottle up anger, suppress your feelings of dislike, mistrust, or being hurt? Keeping anger bottled up and others feelings to yourself can lead to
depression or can even precede headaches according to a 2003 study conducted out of Saint Louis University. Taking a deep breath and slowly counting to 10 can relax you. Finding constructive outlets for your feelings like writing letters expressing how you feel, painting a picture, or sculpting with clay can be great ways of expressing yourself without hurting others. Want to have a healthier brain? Eating foods high in mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids can aid cognitive skills. Good sources of these elements can be found in the following foods: olive oil, butter, cheese and fish.
