The Controvesy with Vector Marketing

Of all the people that attend the 'training', less than a quarter will consider Vector Marketing anything other than a scam. Of course, they do try to brainwash you with their highly motivating success stories and allusive information, and then they finish
by telling you that you will have to pay $150 to buy your kit to start. There are several reviews out there on Vector Marketing, some good and some bad. Many are based on the minimal of experience, so I would like to add my own opinion to the mix, after having worked for Vector marketing for a brief time.

Job Description:
Among the many contests and awards and incentive programs that offer real motivation, the first 10 days are called your 'fast start' and there are great prizes offered at different levels of sales. You begin by convincing friends and family to let you 'practice' your demonstration of the product. (Regardless of whether you make a sale or not, you do get paid for each demonstration. Amount seems to vary from branch to branch.) If you are an outgoing, 'people person' this is a great job for you, and even if you're not you will easily acquire people skills after doing so many demonstrations. The job is actually a lot of fun.

The product: Cutco cutlery is not cheap. The prices are high, but not much higher than itscompetitors sold in stores. (Many reviews will tell you otherwise, but I firmly disagree.) You have a script to follow as you show the product in peoples homes, beginning with describing why the product is so great, and of course some lessons in cutlery. You talk about how unsanitary wooden handles are, teach about the structure of knives (tangs, rivets, straight edge and serrated edge, etc.) obviously subtly knocking down other knives so you can build yours up. Then, you show your product, and talk about how everything is better, why it is better, andexplaining why it is more expensive. For example, the handles are made from thermo-resin, which is (similar to) the material used in bowling balls. This section of the demo last less than 10 minutes, if done correctly, and then you let the 'potential customer' play with the knives.

I have my CutCo interview tomorrow. I did a lot of research because the lady who called me was outrageously vague. I think I've decided not to go to the interview, but not because I fear a scam...Here's some of what I've gathered from various websites: 1. It seems very suspicious but is not actually a scam...Everyone seems in agreement that you can at least refund the knives you purchase and break even. 2. You do have to sell to friends and family first, then branch out. For some, this sucks but other people are fine with it. 3. If you do not dedicate a lot of time to it, you will not be successful at all. Also, I believe the availability is flexible, but not quite so that you can just do whatever you want. This is why I decided against it; I already work 30 hours a week 4. I heard the training is worth attending, even if it is unpaid and even if you do not want the job. I heard it is fun and informative. In general, I guess this isn't a bad opportunity for those who a

i have just recently been hired at Vector Marketing, and i think some corrections need to be made: 1. You dont have to pay for the starter kit. they give it to you for free. dont try to tell me im wrong because i just got one. its sitting right next to me and i didnt pay a cent for it. 2. yes you get to pick your own schedule, and that is very appealing... but its not like youre not working. the reason you get to choose is because you make the appointments yourself. you dont make appointments, you dont make money. simple as that. but if you do make appointments, you make money. i make $15 per appointment, at least, reguardless of whether or not the customer actually makes a purchase. (if 10% of their purchase is more than $15, i get that instead.) 3. this is actually a great opportunity to make money, but they never... NEVER... said it was a piece of cake to make big money. actually WORK. damn.

thnx for not being biased. first thing we're taught as a sales rep is to NOT PREJUDGE. more people should make decisions for themselves... and yes, my office's team meetings are 9-10pm on a weeknight with "team night out" afterwards. i haven't seen bringing a friend or significant other discouraged so ask to tag along, it can't hurt :)

My boyfriend has been working with cutco for MAYBE two months now, hes been going to out of town meetings, which leads me to ask.. is there such thing as having a meeting 10pm at night in a city that you live 2 hours from?

What a thoughtful and observant forethought. You have just helped me with my decision with this Vector marketing /Cutco company. If their prodcut is as good as they claim to be. Why don't they have a celebrity chef advertise the product for them, like Emeril does for Wusthof, a German Cutlery company. Which btw, has a way longer reputation than Cutco, and to my knowledge and good track record too.

What a stupid comment the two of you below. We do tell you up front. You come to an interview and they tell you. It's not like you went through the 3 day training. By the way if you did a little search on the company website it tells you that. You know like research the company your going to apply for. Heres the fact It's not the company its you. If you work hard you make money if your a slacker then don't look for a high paying job.

ANY COMPANY that makes you PAY a START UP FEE is going to make money off you. This is not a scam, but it is a pyramid scheme. For those of us who are laid off and looking for work, that is not acceptable. It IS VERY FRUSTRATING that you waste an hour to find out that you have to pay. Stop getting angry because this is not an option. It is not against the company other than the fact that they dont TELL YOU UP FRONT

I just went to my first Vector interview today. It was a group interview. There were supposed to be 4 people (including myself) but the 4th person was a little late to the group, she went into the managers office (like everyone else did), and she left in anger. Slammed the door. However, she was warned on the phone that if she was late she may be asked to reschedule (as the warned me). The Manager was very nice and energetic. She interviewed the final three alone, and then told us she would like us to stay for the second part of the interview. This part she wanted to see how we reacted to questions, how we paid attention, and how well we took notes. She went over the company, salary, marketing, ect. It took about 45 mins. It was actually very interesting. After this we were given another application to fill out, and taken one-by-one into the office for the 3rd part of the interview. She wanted to know why we thought that we should work there, what we were good at, what
