Schools Inequality in Chicago Fought by Students?

According to Call for Chicago students to skip 1st school day by Michael Tarm State Senator James Meeks is asking students in Chicago Public Schools to take the first day of school off
and go to the suburbs to register for school in schools in "richer" neighborhoods. Senator James Meeks thinks it's ridiculous and discriminatory that the schools in the posh neighborhoods are getting more money per student than the schools in the poorer neighborhoods. He calls it an injustice and immoral.

All schools should be getting the same amount of money if they are government funded. We are risking the education of our future leaders. Look at the government today. Wouldn't you like a better future? It starts with the future of our leaders. After the government gives the schools equal money then the schools can have fundraisers if they feel the need. The schools need to start out equal. According to Meeks the suburb schools get about $17,000 per student and the Chicago Public School gets $10,000.

Community leaders are asking the students to skip the first day and be bused to New Trier Township High School. The School Superintendent is talking to her attorneys to see if she can take any of the students. They have to prove their safety is at risk and Meeks said the safety of their future is at risk.

Meanwhile Senator Meeks is getting hounded by the school that the first day of school sets the basis for the rest of the year and the first day should not be missed for this protest. The only students that would miss school are the high school students. This may actually be a good idea. Seniors should have the right to decide if they have been treated fairly. The high school students can tell the differences in the programs and even if they don't know that it is because of government officials deciding their fate they know they don't have the same opportunity as other students.
