The Surgeon General’s Report on youth and violence describes how through research gathered how violence in the United State had grown during the years of 1983 to 1993 and has seemed to decline in the last few years due to the implementation of certain crime prevention programs in communities and schools. The report also shows what the United States of America is doing to combat the violence problem in America. The report shows how experimental programs have been implemented curb violence in America. The purpose of the report was to show some of the risk factors which caused violence in the youth of America. The reports deal with the reasons of why some young people become violent, and to find ways to curb the violence in our youth. According to the Surgeon General’s report,” The developmental characteristics of, or paths to, youth violence; personal and environmental factors that may either place a child or adolescent at risk of violent behavior or protect a young person from succumbing to those risk factors; and violence intervention and prevention programs. The final chapter in the report identifies areas of opportunity for future efforts to combat and prevent youth violence.”
