And Then Again...maybe It's Just Better to Wait and See What Happens with Vista

Okay, we've looked at the good of Windows Vista, and boy was it impressive. It would appear like good ol' Microsoft finally has decided to make the transition and give the people what they want. Windows Vista seems to be on the right track based on the good stuff we looked at. However, there are, like with all things, some other problems with Windows Vista as well. Here are the top issues with Vista that make it a poor choice to upgrade with:

You current hardware won't be enough. Unless you buy a new computer in 2007, or upgrade your current one with a high-end graphics card and extra memory, you will only be able to run the basic version of Windows Vista. That means you won't have some of the best parts of Windows Vista such as smooth streaming video to your desktop, the animated taskbar and or the superb Aero 3D graphics that is going to be one of the best part of Windows Vista. So more than likely you would have to shell out another $250 or so for newer upgrades or even get a new one.

It eats up a ton of energy - That doesn't only mean higher electricity bills, the worst hit is someone like me, who has a laptop, because Windows Vista gobbles up batteries like no other. Even with the Aero 3D graphics turned off (which is a pain to try and turn off), the battery consumption is huge, though significantly lower). That's another issue in my mind, because if you're a business executive and bought a laptop to be able to work midflight, Vista will seriously limit how much you can get done. At the same time, if you're a student, and trying to take notes on your laptop, you sure won't appreciate Windows Vista eating up all your power.

Takeaways
  • You current hardware won't be enough.
  • Driver compatibility issues.
  • It eats up a ton of energy.
Did You Know?
Windows Vista gobbles up batteries like no other.

Just got an Acer machine with decent specs preinstalled with Vista. Boy, it swallows everything from the battery to RAM. I'm upgrading to XP in January!

How many of my periferals and programs (Microsoft Office) will not work with Vista. When I went from DOS to Win 3.1 I lost plenty. When I went from Win 95 to Win 98 I lost the ability to run my remaining DOS software. WIN XP took out my scanners with the expensive transparency adapters, my printer, and required that I upgrade my hardware over my high end Win 98 machines (Win 2000 is fine in those machines). I hate this constant upgrading. We can't trust Microsoft to have any interest other than how to sqeeze more dollars out of us. What would we do if our windows on our homes became obsolete every few years? What if the lifespan of a car was only a few years? Microsoft is scamming all of the world. What can we do? Start by substituting Open Office for Microsoft Office on new computers. Buy computers loaded with Win 2000 (runs all the software of XP uses fewer resources, much more stable). Win 2000 will even run pretty well on a celeron 466 MHz machine.
