For a wholesome human being, temperance or self control is put as a principle to determine success. Temperance will be seen in the four areas of life, and with proper guidelines and strict discipline, you cannot but open variety of doors to your side. Areas of life that you need temperance are the spiritual, the social, the physical and the mental. I will discuss these one by one and show you how you can greatly improve on your ability to perform in diverse places of this life.

When we talk of spiritual, we are taking about your ability to link with the divine. Religion is borne from the idea that man need to ask for guidance from God and live his life in general principles outlined by God. But even in matters of spirituality self control need to be exercised so that you do not go the extreme of being considered supernatural yourself. When you isolate yourself from others because you are more close to God (holier than thou philosophy), then people will start running away from you and thereby you will be closing your own doors. But a self controlled religion with well outlined boundaries, ensuring that your life is not a hypocritical one, then a lot of people will be interested in learning from you and therefore turning you into a teacher (an opportunity already)!.

Takeaways
  • Temperance or self control is crucial for interaction with oneself and others including God
  • Temperance should be nurtured in the facets of life that is social, spiritual, mental and physical
  • All these facets of life determine the outcome of the whole human being
