COLIC IN INFANTS

Colic (trapped wind/gas) can be caused due to the richness of cows' milk and can actually show that you child has an intolerence to it. The effects of colic is more prevelant in bottle fed babies more than breast-fed babies. An infant with colic can show severe symptoms of anxiety, crying, insomnia, pain and if they are persistant after using these recipes, you should seek advice immediatley.

If you, as a Mother, are breast feeding then one of the best ways to treat your infant is by drinking effective herbs such as Dill, Fennell or Aniseed. Place either of these three herbs, crush them lightly and use 1 teaspoon (5ml spoon) of the herb and make into a tea. Place the boiling water over the herb (as you would do with a teabag) and leave to stand for a few minutes until warm. You then strain the herb out of the liquid and drink in the same way as a cup of tea (avoiding cows milk). You can drink up to four cups of this recipe a day and it will eventually work its way into your breast milk and into your infants system. Use until the symptoms have disappeared and then stop. Other herbs that can be used in this manner include: chamomile or peppermint.
