Singer Sheryl Crow plans to launch a line of eco-friendly jeans. She has teamed up with Western Glove Works (Silver Jeans). Her new collection, entitled "Bootheel Trading Co. by Sheryl Crow" will be made from fair-trade cotton and denim. Sheryl Crow's line of clothing will be affordable. The jeans will cost less than $62. The tops will cost less than $36.

Sheryl Crow is a Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter. She has led a full life, surviving cancer, raising a child, and devoting her efforts to environmental activism. And Sheryl Crow practices what she preaches. She regularly donates clothing to secondhand stores. As a mom, she has sought to raise her child in a non-toxic eco-friendly environment, using eco-friendly diaper bags and diapers.

Sheryl Crow to Launch Eco-Friendly Jeans: Other Celebrities

Sheryl Crow is not the only celebrity to branch out into the world of fashion. In 2004, Hilary Duff launched a line of clothing aimed at pre-teen girls. In 2006, she released her perfume "With Love...Hilary Duff." Although Hilary Duff has been active in animal rights charities and Hurricane Katrina activism, animal rights activists have criticized her for appearing with her dog in the Electronic Arts game The Sims 2: Pets. They felt she was exploiting her dog to make a fashion statement.

In a January 2008 issue of Vogue, Kate Hudson talked not of eco-friendly jeans, but of the need for non-carcinogenic cosmetic products. She expressed an interest in launching her own line of safe cosmetics. There is no word on whether or not she will follow through, or if any projects are in the works.

Like Sheryl Crow, Lauren Bush (niece of President George W. Bush) is using her celebrity for socially conscious causes. Proceeds from her reusable shopping bags go towards the United Nations FEED Program to feed hungry children in Rwanda. Like Sheryl Crow's eco-friendly jeans, the bags are made from organic fair-trade materials.

It is inspiring to see public figures such as Sheryl Crow using their celebrity status for worthy causes.

Thanks for the great info. I love it when celebrities get involved in green and eco-friendly promotions. I hope that Kate Hudson pursues the cosmetics thing. I'd love to be able to purchase some safer akternatives. I don't wear much makeup because of how bad it is.

No surprise about it being SC; she's one of the more socially conscious celebrities.
