Whether through high times with the Playstation and Playstation 2 or through the low time with the Playstation 3, Sony has its fair share of memorable franchises throughout the years. Not to
mention that they continue to create new ones like Killzone, Resistance and LittleBigPlanet on a regular basis. While those are too new to be considered, Sony has enough to fill in the list. Here are the top five franchises from Sony.
5. Twisted Metal
When you think vehicular combat, you will think of Twisted Metal. The franchise basically popularized the unique genre with its great power-ups, exquisite map layouts and unique characters (including the infamous ice cream clown, Sweet Tooth). Although the third and fourth games were horrible (mainly due to being made by different developers), the rest of the franchise easily makes up for it.
4. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus
While having just two games (supposedly a third game is being developed on the Playstation 3) is hardly considered a franchise, the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus combination is considered some of the most underrated (yet influential) video games ever created. This is because both games in this franchise took interactive immersion to the limits. They are about as close as any video game can get to being works of art.
3. Trio of Platformers: Jak, Sly and Ratchet& Clank
Despite the fact that it is impossible to top the greatness of Mario, Sony came pretty close with its trio of platforming franchises. Naughty Dog's Jak, Sucker Punch's Sly and Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank are among the best 3D platformers ever created. All three franchises offer their own unique take on the genre and, as a result, left their mark. It's hard to pick just one from the group since all of them are top quality; thus, the three platformer franchises deserved the same spot on the list.
