One reader sent me an email stating: "I was reading about the creature known as the Monster of Montauk, and have studied animals for many years now. In my opinion of what this animal could possibly be,,it is either a
sheep,,goat,,or a ram, with some of its lips and front hoof missing,,either from erosion from being in the water so long or by being pick at by fish. I would certainly look into WHAT it was that the USDA/DHS,,was inflicting on this poor animal before it escaped or was even dumped into our oceans,,for the potential of the disease still being active within the carcass, as well now, as the fish that possibly picked at it while it was in the waters, is VERY highly possible."
On the other side of the fence, a reader who signed in as Aggie said she once worked at Plum Island. Aggie thinks that those who think Plum Island is responsible for the Montauk Monster "have been watching too many Oliver Stone movies."
Folks who won't trust the government on this one apparently won't trust the experts at Animal Planet either. Fox News reported today that Animal Planet's Jeff Corwin identified the Montauk Monster as a raccoon, with the protrusion some describe as a beak actually being canine teeth.
Raccoon. It's beginning to have a familiar ring. All this fuss over a dead raccoon?
