Visiting Guilford State Park Near Canton, Ohio

Located in north eastern Ohio, Guilford State Park is a great place for a weekend escape or family vacation for those living in the Canton, Youngstown or Steubenville, Ohio area, Weirton or Wheeling, West Virginia, or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Offering camping, swimming (with a beach), fishing, and a nice place to relax, Guilford State Park offers something for everyone.

The campground at Guilford State Park offers over 40 sites with fire rings and picnic tables and many offer a view of the lake. Campground does provide electrical hookups, showers and a dump station. The campground offers a playground area, a boat ramp, and a beach area on the lake. Due to the campgrounds small size, it is best to call ahead concerning camping site vacancies. Guilford State Park shares its name with Guilford Lake. Guilford Lake was originally built as a reservoir for the local canal system. Today, Guilford Lake is an almost 400 acre impoundment that offers both a nice sandy beach for visitors and a large variety of fish for sportsmen and sportswomen. The beach accommodates those who are interested in working on their tan and those who want to swim and play in water. The changing area and showers at the lake were clean during my visit, which is a nice change from most public facilities. Guilford Lake holds a variety of fish including largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and pike. Guilford Lake has a 10 horsepower restriction on it making it a nice place to fish or cruise around the lake in peace. There are dock rentals available at the lake. A private business rents boats as well. There are three boat ramps in the park located at various points. Guilford Lake provides ample opportunity for bank fishing plus also offers a handicap accessible fishing pier.

Guilford State Park offers picnic areas scattered at different points. Many picnic areas are located around the lake with great scenery for a quiet picnic. The picnic areas provide a picnic table and grill.
