Another thing I noticed was how Gawain would always try to make himself better. He would be very careful to give respect equally among people. When he made a mistake, he felt it was necessary for everyone else to know. A good example of this is when Gawain made the mistake of hiding the green girdle from the king. He felt so upset by this, that he wore it around his neck so the world would know his sin. This made me feel that he was the type of character that can't stand the idea of making a mistake. To me, wearing the green girdle wasn't only showing everyone else around him his mistake, but it was a way for Gawain to remember what he did. It seemed like he would never want to let go of the memory of the mistake he had, and would use it to try and improve his future self.
Gawain showed his loyalty in the beginning of the book by accepting the Green Knight's challenge. All the other knights were either in too much shock to stand up, or were too afraid by the Green Knights confidence in the challenge. I believe this shows that Gawain is braver than the other knights. Even after the battle, he continued to show his loyalty. When he was out looking for the Green Knight, he had the chance to run away. The other man with Gawain said he wouldn't tell anybody that Gawain ran away from the fight, and nobody would know he was a coward. Since Gawain refused this offer, it shows that he was both loyal and honest because he made the promise that he would let the Green Knight return the blow. If Gawain had ran away, he would be breaking his promise and everything else he stood for.
