Brett and Deanna Favre Return to Green Bay
Who is Green Bay Luckier to Have Back?
Anyone who has gotten the impression from the Green bay Packers' organization that Brett Favre is no longer the fan favorite in Green Bay will have their thinking challenged by Sunday night's occurrence as reported by Tony Walter of the Green BayBrett and Deanna Favre Return to Green Bay
Date: August 4, 2008Ashwaubenon, WIUnited States of America
Walter's article was picked up by USA Today where we learn that Brett Favre and his wife, Deanna arrived at the Executive Air Terminal to the cheers of dozens and dozens of Green Bay fans who apparently, in the middle of a lightening storm, were standing and cheering him while grabbing on to a metal fence. Some of the fans had waited up to three hours.
I am an avid Chicago Bears fan and since the Packers are our arch-rivals, it hardly surprises me they would grab a metal fence during a lightening storm. After all, during football season they wear cheese on their collective heads. However, in spite of the many times Brett Favre has caused me personal pain by beating my beloved Bears, I cannot help but admire and respect him for his accomplishments, especially his achievements this last season when he was supposed to be "too old for the game".
As big of a hero as Brett Favre is to Green Bay fans, Deanna Favre is an amazing hero in her own right. Many people know that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. Very few people know that she was diagnosed just eight days after her brother had been killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident.
I was blown away when I found out that she gave birth to Favre's daughter in 1989. She went to a junior college on a basketball scholarship. She put herself through college and graduated only then moving to be with Favre in Green Bay in 1995 (they still were not married). That is amazing since Favre was already a star in 1992.
It came to light that Favre had a prescription drug problem soon followed by a drinking problem; Deanna stuck by him and they were married in 1996.
As Deanna Favre battled her cancer, she began the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation and has become an advocate for the disease.
