from all over, with Chicago's Examiner reporting that the grand prize for the biggest fish is one million dollars. Not only does the White Marlin Tournament get the fishermen excited, but it helps keep Ocean City's economy, dependent on tourism, afloat. The destination of my own family vacation this week, Ocean City, Maryland and the White Marlin Open mean fun for the whole family.

The White Marlin Open Tournament began in Ocean City, Maryland on Monday, August 4, and will run through Friday, August 8th, ending just in time for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. The official website for the White Marlin Open states that there will be over 300 boats participating this year, and expected payouts of over two million dollars.

Weigh -ins will take place at the Harbour Island Marina. Spectators and tourists to Ocean City hoping to get a glimpse of the boats or the festivities surrounding the White Marlin Open should consider stopping by the marina after 4 PM in order to sneak a peek at some of the fish.

If you've headed to Ocean City for the White Marlin Open Tournament, and are interested in enjoying some of the highlights of Ocean City while you are there, consider a cup of Thrasher's French Fries from the Inlet on the Boardwalk. Drop by Candy Kitchen for saltwater taffy. Let the kids ride some rides or play some games on the boardwalk. Enjoy dinner at the Olive Tree, or head into Bethany Beach for some pizza at Grotto's. Use the White Marlin Open as an excuse to help a local economy by supporting local chains, shops, and stores.

The White Marlin Tournament means money for fishermen, money for the local Ocean City economy, and fun and excitement at the beach for families. Summertime in Maryland has never been better.
