Let The Dark Knight Curse Rumors Begin

People have been itching to write about, or have already written about, the strange and tragic events surrounding The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger's death already brought a pall to a film bleak enough as it is. In addition, a Dark Knight crew member named Conway Wickliff died in an accident
while they filmed an action scene in September 2007. On the day The Dark Knight officially received the highest grossing opening weekend in history, Christian Bale was arrested for possible assault in London. Since all things come in threes, the third item of bad luck to befall The Dark Knight came with news of Morgan Freeman's serious car accident. This news came on the day The Dark Knight was number one for the third straight weekend and was expected to hit the 400 million dollar mark. So now, the inevitable theories and paranoia have increased and the obvious question has already been asked- is The Dark Knight cursed?

To seriously proclaim that The Dark Knight is cursed, the movie itself would have to be responsible for these misfortunes. The death of Wickliff is obviously the movie's doing, since it was during a stunt. In comparion, the debate on whether playing the Joker influenced Ledger to take those fateful pills will go on for years and years. But Bale's misfortune was caused by his own temper, though that incident got people talking more than his actual performance in The Dark Knight did. As for Freeman, a single car accident did the job and not anything related to The Dark Knight itself. Though it is still debatable on how much The Dark Knight did to Ledger's psyche, Bale and Freeman are isolated incidents. Despite that, it will not lessen the growing perception that people associated with The Dark Knight get into big trouble, if they're not outright cursed.
