I've come to decide that Christmas gift buying is an art. Or at least it is if you want to find the perfect Christmas gift for someone[ in other words not a candle for mom or a tie for dad. These are a few methods I've used over the year to make Christmas gift shopping easier on me, and happier on the receiving end.

Get Creative

First and foremost stay FAR away from generic Christmas gifts, such as the two I mentioned earlier, and anything similar to that. Things like candles, ties and gift cards are great for coworkers or acquaintances, but when it comes to close friends and family you can afford to be a little more specific. What makes a creative gift? Something that makes you chuckle. Something unique that you haven't seen before. Something that sticks in your head as you continue your shopping. And these types of gifts don't have to be expensive in the least bit. I would put USB heated gloves (a pair of gloves that you actually plug into your laptop, and they warm your hands) in this category. and they tend to run between $20 and $40 at various online tech shops. Obviously that doesn't appeal to everyone. In that case look for ordinary items that have been made unique by design. For instance, TheSucculentWife.com has a gorgeous picture frame encrusted with tons of sea shells. A piece like this will easily standout in a home. And simply personalizing a gift with the gift recievers initials can make your gifts even more special. Websites such as RedEnvelope.com, Coach.com and even Polo.com have a wide variety of products that can be personalized.
