Swiffer Sweep+Vac: A Product Review

This Floor Duster/Vacuum Combo is a Handy Sucker

When my ancient Pledge Grab-it floor duster finally cratered (well, my toddler helped it along by ripping off the rubber foot), I decided to try the Swiffer Sweep+Vac.

I often found myself getting out the broom and dustpan to clean up Cheerios that were spilled or tossed on the floor or leaves that were tracked inside by shoes. And sweeping is pretty low on my list of things I like to do. So when I saw on TV that the
Swiffer Sweep+Vac is a combination vacuum/duster for floors, I thought it was just what the toddler ordered.

The Swiffer Sweep+Vac would do the same thing as my old Pledge model, which used a dry cloth to pick up dust and dirt. But the Swiffer Sweep+Vac would also vacuum up large particles that wouldn't stick to the dust pad, saving me from having to sweep and then dust in two steps.

Because I hadn't read any reviews of the Swiffer Sweep+Vac and because I'm a major coupon junkie, I visited swiffer.com to find a Swiffer Sweep+Vac coupon. I signed up to receive a coupon book by mail. It arrived in a few weeks with a coupon included for $5 off the Swiffer Sweep+Vac, so I set off to Wal-Mart, where I had seen the lowest price for it ($28.92).

Swiffer Sweep+Vac Gets a New Home

I brought my new Swiffer Sweep+Vac "toy" home and unpacked the box. With only three pieces to put together, I didn't even need the instructions to assemble it. The vacuum/duster end comes already assembled. Even the dirt filter was already where it needed to be.

After putting it together, I did a quick glance over the instructions just in case. That's when I saw that I needed to plug in my new Swiffer Sweep+Vac for 24 hours before using it for the first time. Seeing as I'm always looking for a good excuse to postpone cleaning, I did that and went on to other things guilt-free. My Swiffer Sweep+Vac needed time to charge, so I couldn't possibly do any cleaning till it was ready.

I am glad to be able to read the comments, I was going to get one but not if there is so much trouble charging them. I love the swifter products and thought this might be the way to go. I guess its time they got with the program and fixed the proble.

I love my swiffer vac, but i also am experiencing the problem of it not holding it's charge for long. I use it in the kitchen, bathroom and our hardwood fllors in the living room. It never lasts to let me do all 3 rooms. I am lucky if I can get in the kitchen and the living room. I am debating on buying another one or just getting a stick vac that plugs in.

I emailed Proctor and Gamble regarding the battery issue to see if they would sell me a replacement battery for my SweeperVac. No, but they did give this advice: completely run down the battery and charge it for at least 24 hours, four times. I've done this twice (I just put the vac in the cleaning closet until I couldn't hear it anymore, and I did recharge for more than 24 hours each time) and today it held the charge for every floor and then some.

As in every other rechargeable vacuum, as the swiffer sweeper vac gets older, it holds its charge less. Why not make an electric sweeper vac with a plug-in cord? At least it would keep working.

I've had my swifter vac about six month, then it wouldn't charge at all. Can you buy another battery to charge, if so where can you purchase it.

For those of you who need a new charger (like me) - go to www.swiffer.com, select products at the top of the homepage. Then Select swiffer sweepvac on the left side of the page. Then select Swiffer Sweepvac Replacement Parts in the bottom right of the page. It will then give you the option to purchase the 1SG1700000 charging adapter. The shipping is a little pricey, and with everything it ended up being $14, but that's 1/2 the cost of a whole new one. If you can find one on ebay, I'd go that route. Just not one available when I needed it.

Mine has not held the charge long for quite sometime, and now the charger cord broke in two where it connects into the plug. What now, buy a whole new one??
