A Tasty Way to Start Your Morning

Wendy's has joined the fast-food breakfast wars. Its offering is the Mornin' Melt Panini. The Mornin' Melt Panini is sourdough bread topped with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, eggs and either bacon or sausage. The sandwich
is then toasted on the grill. The Mornin' Melt Panini hopes to entice customers away from the usual fast food offerings. The side items for your Mornin' Melt Panini meal include a coffee cake muffin, a blueberry muffin or hash browns. It sounds good, but how does it taste?

The Mornin' Melt Panini I get from my local Wendy's looks like the picture in the ads. From the very first bite I can tell this is not an ordinary fast food breakfast. The bread was toasty. The cheddar cheese tasted so much better than the American cheese that comes with most other fast food breakfast sandwiches.

The bacon was crispy, but not over cooked. Wendy's advertises the bacon as being hickory-smoked. I didn't notice because the flavors complimented each other so well. The tang of the sourdough, the sharpness of the cheddar and the hickory-smoke bacon combined to make one yummy sandwich.

The side items were a nice surprise with the meal. The hash browns were the usual potato deep fried in grease that every fast food place offers. Forget the hash browns and try a muffin.

The coffee cake muffin was moist. It did have a hint of cinnamon. It needed more of the cinnamon crumble topping to add to the flavor though. At first I missed the icing that is usually on top of coffee cake. However, after a few bites I realized the icing would have made it too sweet for breakfast.

The blueberry muffin was really good. It was very moist. The muffin had a generous amount of blueberries. They tasted and looked like actual blueberries, not the frozen or freeze dried stuff that comes out of some mixes.

The final test was the coffee. Wendy's has a Custom Bean™ by Folgers® Gourmet Selections™ coffee. The coffee tasted freshly brewed, not burnt as some fast food coffees tend to be. It was strong enough, but not overpowering.

  • The Mornin' Melt™ Panini has sourdough bread, cheddar cheese, eggs, and either bacon or sausage
  • The muffins are a non-greasy alternative for a side

Jc- there are 320 calories in the panini but that does not include the bacon. Here is where I found it...http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/wendys/morning-melt-panini-plain
They are really good. Problem is I started a diet about 2 months ago and have lost a good amount of weight. Don't wanna ruin it. Too bad they do not list the calories ANYWHERE that are in it so I could at least see if it's a possiblity
It looks really good. Unfortunately, I get scared away from fast food restaurants by how unhealthy most of the options are. Nice review!
Breakfast muffin = Instant win!
it sounded good and then I realized there's egg on it. I can't eat eggs when combined with other foods. yuck. I might try this without the egg on it though. well done review.
I cannot enjoy fast food but may just try this if I ever get the chance - great review.
Oh, great. There isn't a Wendy's within 50 miles of here!
