Tanning Beds and Staph Infection

Whether you are a newbie at tanning or you have been tanning for years now, you probably are already aware of the risk of developing skin cancer. Did you know that there is another very serious risk associated
with indoor tanning? Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (MRSA), or Staph Infection, is also known to be one of the major risks that comes along with indoor tanning. In fact, there have been deaths related to people contracting Staph Infection at tanning salons. Here, you will learn a little more about why this happens and how to prevent yourself from contracting MRSA from a tanning bed.

How Staph Infection Can Be Spread at a Tanning Salon

Let's pretend that someone comes into the salon to use a tanning bed. They do not realize that they have MRSA, so their physician has not warned them that tanning at the moment is probably not the best idea. They use the type of bed that you lay down in and they also rent eye protection from the salon. When they are leaving, they get a phone call, so they neglect to wipe the tanning bed down with disinfectant. The next person waiting to use a tanning bed uses the tanning bed that they use and also neglects to wipe it down. The following person wipes it down, but she ends up borrowing the same eye protection that the first person borrowed. Thus, the person has spread Staph Infection to at least two other people.

You claim that people have died from obtaining MRSA in a tanning bed. Please supply factual documentation to support your statement. I don't seem to recall seeing any media report or research that substantiates your claim. For more factual information regardin indoor tanning, visit www.suntanningedu.com

Very important article! Last time I used a tanning bed was the early 80s...seemed a much less dangerous time even with the disease outbreaks of the time.
