Inexpensive and Easy Olympic Themed Decorations

Around the world many people are suffering from (or perhaps enjoying!) Olympics fever as the 2008 Summer Olympic Games get underway in China. The Olympics make an excellent theme for a variety of children's activities including school, homeschool, day care, Sunday school, day camps, and more. If you would like to use an Olympics theme with a group of children, check out these fun, simple, and inexpensive Olympics decorations to get your theme off to an exciting start.

Hula Hoop Olympic Rings. A great way to create a large scale Olympics decoration for your Olympics theme is to fashion the Olympic rings out of colored hula hoops. Just choose hula hoops in the appropriate colors (blue, yellow, black, green, and red) and attach them together in the correct Olympic rings configuration with clear packaging tape. If you are unable to find hula hoops in the right colors for your Olympic rings decoration, just spray paint them with spray paint created especially for plastic. This simple Olympics themed decoration makes a bold statement for not a lot of money.

Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. The medals presented at the Olympic Games are a staple of the event so they should be a staple of your Olympic themed decorations as well. A great way to create medals (and to recycle some unwanted materials in the meantime!) is to spray paint used CDs with gold, silver, and bronze spray paint. To make the medals for your Olympic theme solid all the way across, just affix a small piece of electrical tape over both sides of the open hole in the CD prior to spray painting. Attach a red, white, and blue ribbon and your Olympic medals are ready to be added to your overall Olympics theme.
