Obama and McCain Reveal Personal Favorites

Are These the Real Issues?

In the news today, we all read that Presidential Campaign opponents, Obama and McCain revealed their favorite pop stars, movies, and other things. Why? To make themselves more personable to the general public??
Why not give the public a real idea of how each party intends to run our country, told without political mumbo-jumbo that a lot of people don't even understand?

Obama stated that his Favorites superheroes are Spider-man and Batman. McCain said that his favorite is Batman. Obama stated that his favorite music comes from Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan,Sheryl Crow, and John Coltrane. McCain stated that his favorite music comes from ABBA. Roy Orbison, Linda Ronstadt, but he also likes Usher. Obama likes to watch "M.A.S.H.", and "The Dick Van Dyke Show". McCain likes "Seinfeld", "Dexter", and "Curb Your Enthusiasm". The last movie Obama watched in the theater was "Shrek The Third". McCain last saw "Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull". As far as their favorite actors to play the roll of President? Obama chose Jeff Bridges for his roll in the movie "The Contender". McCain chose Dennis Haysbert from the t.v. show "24". Obama's first movie memory was "Born Free". McCain's was "Bambi".

This all came from an interview that they had with Entertainment Weekly magazine. My question is, how many American's are really worried about what kind of music, t.v. shows or movies our future President likes? Are they going to gain popularity with the people by disclosing this information? Does it effect how either one of them could run our country? Did they agree to this kind of an interview to demonstrate to American's that they are probably pretty down-to-earth people? What exactly were they trying to prove.

Interesting analysis, although I disagree with your basic premise. Knowing such things as what type of comedy someone likes provides insight into how that person thinks. Conversely, knowing what promises a candidate makes does not tell you what that candidate will do. The first George Bush said "no new taxes" and the second George Bush said "no nation building." Both went on the do just the opposite.
