To Make Faux Carved Architectural Christmas tree Ornaments You Will need:
Plastic drinking straw
Old newspaper
Water putty (or plaster of Paris for projects that won't be painted)
Water
Small disposable container
Paint stir stick
2 to 3 inch paintbrush
Modeling/craft clay
Architectural details (angel doll faces, molding, crown molding, small columns, and any Christian symbols)
Water-based paint in antique white, cream or another color of your choice
The first step in this simple craft project is to cover work surface with a few layers of old newspaper. You could also use a plastic tablecloth. Either one of these materials will make clean up a lot easier.
Now, Roll your clay out in a slab that is about 1/8" thicker than raised design piece you are using. You can use real clay or air drying clay, either will work just fine. They can also be bought at any art supply store.
Now, to create mold you need to press the architectural design into the clay. Gently press down so that the image is captured, but not so that your architectural detail comes out the back.
