The Advantages and Disadvantages of Layering Your Hair

You've probably admired the beautiful layered hairstyles that so many celebrities wear these days and have wondered if you should layer your own. Layered hair can be stunning on the right individual but it involves significant upkeep unless you have hair
with natural wave and body. Layering your hair is a big step since hair grows, on average, only a half inch per month. This means you may be stuck with your new layered look and its upkeep for many months. If you're considering whether to take the big step, here are some of the advantages and disadvantages to layering your hair:

Advantages of layering your hair:

Layered hair can be quite flattering to your face.

A layered haircut is usually quite flattering to the face. The layers tend to deemphasize facial imperfections and enhance the appearance of your eyes. A skillfully done layered haircut can beautify almost any type of face shape. If your face is a bit too round, layers added to the crown can create height that will deemphasize fullness. Wavy bangs and layers can also soften a square shaped face. A layered cut can be designed so that the layers fall at certain levels to emphasize your best facial features. Almost anyone can look good in a skillfully cut layered hairstyle.

Layered hair can make you look younger.

Medium to shorter length hair with subtle layering tend to be immensely flattering to a more mature face. In fact, the simple act of layering can sometimes take up to five years off of your face. Layers cause fine lines to be less noticeable and gives a subtle lift and youthfulness to the face.

Layered hair can be a fun change.

If you've always had straight, blunt cut hair layering gives you a chance to experiment with an entirely new look. Almost everyone can benefit from a change in hairstyle once in a while. It's an inexpensive way to dramatically change your appearance

Disadvantages to layering your hair:

Layered hair requires significant upkeep.

Great article! My hair is so thick that this is how I relieve myself from headaches, the husband wants to length and I want less hair! It was a great way to meet in the middle.

Because my hair is baby fine, I can't layer it. If I do, I look like I don't have any hair at all.
