As a freelance writer, it's up to you to generate your own work. In this post, I'll share three places to find lots of markets for your writing.

What do you, as a writer, need to know, and always have on hand? You need to know how to write query letters, prepare a resume, and have a portfolio of writing samples to share with editors. Get a website and have an online portfolio. This is a fast and easy way to share your work.

Next, you need an organized plan and schedule to keep you focused and working productively. Set daily and weekly goals. The more you accomplish, the better you will feel about yourself and your work.
Finally, be patient and be persistent. Things don't always happen overnight, so don't expect the impossible. Keep yourself busy while waiting to hear from the various editors you've contacted.

Now, here are some good sources to bookmark:

Reselling Articles
Those of us who write for a living, know the importance of reselling ideas and articles. We understand the need for "recycling" our ideas and rewriting articles for new audiences.

Once you've sold an article to a magazine, there's no reason you can't rehash it into a new article. The fact that one magazine loved your idea is already a great indication of marketability, and an incentive for sending it off again, repackaged and rewritten.
