So you want to setup a wireless network in your home or office? You want to be secure but don't want to spend a lot of money on a professional install? For the inexperienced this may seem like a daunting task. This, however, is not the case. Not only can you have a safe and secure wireless network, but you can also have the useful features of a network in just a few short steps. The first thing you need to consider is what uses you have for your network. Are you just splitting your broadband Internet connection? Or are you planning on sending streaming audio and video through your network? If you're setting up in an office setting, do you wish to be able to share files and maybe a printer? These questions are things you need to consider when trying to decide what equipment you are going to purchase. In this first installment, I am going to cover some of the different technologies, the pros and cons of each and what to look for in the equipment. Also in the interest of the readers I am going to describe a setup using one desktop PC, one notebook PC, and a printer, as the inexhaustible number of configurations that are possible.
