China Switches Child Singers at the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics

The opening ceremony for the Olympics had one little cutie that stuck out in everyone's mind. A sweet little girl who resembled what many would call a china doll. With her cute smile and long pigtails she was the image of what everyone sees as a perfect child from China. She sang out the "Hymn of the Motherland" in a voice that was not only beautiful but also amazing. She was purely talented. At least that is what everyone thought, but it happens it is not the care.

The little girl singing the "Hymn of the Motherland" wasn't Lin Miaoke the sweet little pig tailed girl the entire word saw. In reality the child with the remarkable voice and all the talent was actually Yang Peiyi. Yang Peiyi was the talented little girl who won the grueling and difficult competition to be the singer at this notorious event but at the last minute China officials chose to swap the girls. Why? Because Yang Peiyi is not as cute or "perfect" looking as Lin Miaoke.

Yang Peiyi has teeth that are not perfect, bucktooth is what she was labeled, and China officials did not think she was the child that had the image that China wanted to portray to the rest of the world. What a disgrace to Yang Peiyi and her family simply because she has teeth that are not perfect.

I can only begin to imagine how crushed this little seven year old child Yang Peiyi must have been to be told that because she is not perfect she could not represent China to the entire world. What kind of message does that send to children everywhere? If you are not perfect we don't want anyone to see you. Yang Peiyi's voice and talent was good enough for China to record her but her outer beauty left something to be desired so they tossed her aside and put in Lin Miaoke. When Yang Peiyi was asked about the situation she stated that the fact that her voice was used was still a great honor.

This is not the first report of China doing something like this. They were also found to fake a fireworks display that was only shown to television viewers at home. This was supposedly done because the officials feared that not all of the fireworks would be captured on film.
