The Sad Truth in Today's Society

I was absolutely disgusted to hear the reveal to the truth behind the young Lin Miaoke's performance at the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics. As many are now aware, little Lin "sang" Hymn to the Motherland . . . or did she? It was recently made public that while the entire world was under the impre

ssion that Lin was, as they call it "the poster child for all of China", she was not the true voice behind the song. A seven year old girl by the name of Yang Peiyi was the true vocals during this performance. A last minute decision was made to "swap" the two young girls so that the more attractive one would be visible by the world to represent the country of China. Meanwhile, Yang was to remain hidden, with only her voice heard with the impression that Lin was the one singing all along. The reason for this - she was simply not attractive enough, and she has buck teeth.

Ridiculous is not even close to the words I would prefer to use, however for the public eye I will keep the vulgar language to myself. Due to their selfish and disgusting decision to keep this poor child out of the spotlight, they have done permanent damage to her self esteem; I can only hope in time she has the will to move on from this as she grows. Not only have they pushed her away from the public eye for being "ugly" as they wish to insinuate, but now she must endure ridicule for many years for being the "buck toothed child who wasn't worthy of promoting the Olympics". Truly this world has come to a sad point in time when we now force young and innocent children to feel that they must be glamorous on the outside in order to obtain acceptance in society.

Oh please, this type of thing goes on all the time. In America looks are everything. If you're young, white, thin blond and beautiful, you will be chosen, talent or not. If you have tremendous talent but don't fit society's beautiful profile ,you will take a back seat or be forced to change your image. It's always been that way. Look at Hollywood, actresses are forced to remain super thin or risk ridicule. If your teeth aren't absolutely perfect (dazzlingly white, straight, no spaces) better get veneers. It unfortunate, but it is not certainly is not unique to China.
