Research has consistently shown that the most effective schools are those with a well-ordered classroom environment. Central to achieving this type of environment is having clear and precise rules and high behavioral expectations (Wong & Wong, 2004, p. 143). This paper will discuss determining, evaluating, and student involvement in regards to expectations, rules, and consequences in the Elementary classroom.

It can be difficult to determine what expectations, rules, and their respective consequences will be the most effective within the classroom. A good approach can consist of asking the following questions:

1. What goals do I have for my students this year?

2. What activities will occur daily within the classroom?

3. What kind of environment do I want to establish?
