Our back yard can be an extension of our house if we caress it with touches of our own personalities. With beautiful, affordable and easy decoration details, we can make the style of our house flow to ou
r back yard.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to brighten a yard is to combine colorful pots of plants. Try to follow a color and style scheme to make nice points of life in your yard. I love to go yard-sale or Goodwill hunting to find different style pots. I would place together a group of pots with shapes I like and I will paint them with the same color, or with the same patterns. Placed around a tree, or in a corner surrounded by rocks, they will make a beautiful focal point. We can use rocks or pieces of branches to make nice arrangements, and place the pot plants around.

It is fun to find different objects that can be used as plant pots. Almost everything is possible to transform in a plant container. I have a plant arrangement in my garden where I used an old cow boy boot as a pot plant, with a geranium inside. Vintage cans, old wood boxes or barrels, even old toys can be used as plant pots, if we use our imagination.

To give our garden a personal decorative touch, nothing is better than make stone steps. We can make a border for our deck or patio with stone steps, if we use the right shape mold. We need a rectangular shaped mold, and we can use oven bread molds for that. We only have to buy the already mixed cement and the decorations, as beads, buttons or pieces of glass. We also can make a path in our yard with the step stones, or a circle or plants. If all the family make the stones, they would be a very personal touch.

It is good sometimes to be creative and get a little bold. When we go to the Dollar Store we can see decoration items that can go in the yard. I bought there a set of frogs, and with some wood leftovers and whine I made a little bridge. I placed the frogs and the bridge close to a tree, and look fantastic. Another time, I found a nice huge broken ceramic container. I placed it in my yard with the broken part looking up, added rocks and gravel, some little cactus and it looks like a desert garden.

  • Look around, you might have already beautiful things that can decorate your backyard.
  • Try to use decorative items that flow together for an unique look.
  • Be original and bold, the garden can be a fun place.
