Republicans Reluctantly for Obama

Frankly Neither Candidate Gets Me Very Excited

I would like to think that my intelligence is above average. I also have to admit that over the years, I have never been much impressed by politicians in general. Be that as it may, and probably due to family influences, I have usually voted Republican. Some how I always knew that if the

Democrats ever got control of both the House of Representatives and Senate at the same time, they would do absolutely nothing.

I voted in every election since the early 1970s and, except for the last presidential election, I always voted Republican. See, that's twice I have said that. This year the only thing sure about my vote is that it won't be for John McCain. He's a nice guy, a patriot deserving of much admiration, but having a father in his 80s and seeing the totally incomprehensible thought processes of persons once they reach their 70s, there is just no way in hell I can vote for a geriatric president. Sorry John.

I also am very disappointed in Bush and buddies. So much promise, so little done while wasting so damn much money. I had that crew figured out last election and did not vote for them again. I also did not vote Democratic because it turned my stomach that John Kerry held up his Vietnam service as a reason to vote for him as president, but when returning from 'Nam, he physically threw away his medals. Don't get me wrong. That was his right, and I admire him for sticking up for what he believed in. But to turn around and say, "Look at me the big war hero," after denouncing the war? Well, no thank you, hypocrite, you disgust me.

So this time we have Barack Obama. There is a lot not to like about him, from a Republican point of view. However, just on the chance that he is different and will at least try to make things right, I will probably vote for him. The state of our medical services and insurance dictatorships is embarrassing. The shrinking middle class is something every Republican should apologize for every night when they go to bed.

Good article. It is all I would ask of anyone who is voting. Don't just keep voting a party line because "that's what I've always done," or "my husband told me to," or any other reason that doesn't engage the brain. Analyze the individual candidates for themselves and then pick who your conscience tells you to pick. I'm an independent, and I too, cannot vote for a senile geriatric for president. Though I don't particularly consider Obama a strong candidate either, I think he at least still has the ability to think.
