Ban on Rap: Should Rap Be Banned?

The United States Government is only allowed to restrict freedom of speech if it presents an immediate harm to society. So why isn't there a ban on rap music? That is what I am going to address in this paper.

First of all, rap music is not even real music. I used to be in a Christian band and am a music major, so I know what music is. It is very possible to record an entire rap song without even knowing how to play a musical instrument, and without even knowing how to
sing. Rap is simply a conglomerate of words, usually offensive words, spoken very fast and backed up by a simulated band. I say simulated because generally these artists (or non-artists as is usually the case) generally use drum machines and other simulators. Now that we have sufficiently covered the fact that rap is not actually music and therefore not art, let's get on to the substance of the argument.

Rap is incredibly offensive. There are very few rap songs that do not, in some form or another, mention sex, doing drugs, or even murder. The language is incredibly horrible, as a rap song (if censored) is nothing more than a long beep. Women are mentioned in a very derogatory fashion. Examples include calling them hoes and other terms that cannot be used in this paper. These writers make them out to be nothing more than objects of pleasure. This is a horrible thing and should not be allowed to continue.

Yes, Rap music needs to be band. I absolutely think it should be wiped from this planet. This may seem a little dark, but if your caught with it, life in prison.

(cont.)..... hip hop music, or in my case, Christianity. ...suck it.

(cont.)......stuff. A little more modern Christian-inspired gang violence would be, oh I don't know, the KKK, the Aryan Nation, Lambs of Christ, Concerned Christians. Violence sucks, man. We should really do something about it! Ban Christianity, ban the Bible, ban Christian music! Psh.. If you can even call it music. The lyrics are trite, repetitive cliches, completely unoriginal and uninteresting! All they talk about is like hope and stuff, scared to talk about reality. I'm calling the closest government official and if you're a concerned citizen or a decent human being, you'll do the same! I'm sure you are a very knowledgable person, being a music major and a Christian musician and whatnot. I myself am a flautist (Juilliard, '95) and have also played in various bands (and symphonies). We have similarities, you see. We also have in common the fact that we lack the authority to make very broad and powerful assertions about things we know very little about...such as hip h

You should work as a government official, sir--what splendidly moral ideas you have! Please though, let's ban that awful Christian music as well. I mean, daaang...have you read the Bible? It promotes child killing and slavery! and women are mentioned in a very derogatory fashion, for God's sake! (no pun intended) These writers make them out to be nothing more than objects of pleasure. This is a horrible thing and should not be allowed to continue! Christianity is not only offensive, it is destructive. I completely understand where you're coming from with the gang violence. It's like that whole Crusades thing, right? That shit was like just one huge gang of Roman Catholics stomping out them Muslims, even Jews and heretical Christian sects. The Knights Templar are like the more vicious Crips or Bloods or something, right? Or how about that Reformation? Millions of Protestants were killed. St. Bartholomew's Day massacre was pretty bad too, and the whole French Wars of Religion st

Nice to know you are the arbiter of what constitutes music or not. You have every right not to like rap music, but to characterize gangsta rap (some of which is quite good, actually) as representative of all rap is simply ignorant. Of course, so is your understanding of the First Amendment

First of all don't degrade as a whole as it should be banned........ Commercially rap is portrayed as sex drugs and murder....i was born and still am a hip hop head.....if u want good rap u can always find it ........and no it ain't few good songs out there (WITHOUT THE CUSS SEX AND KILLS)
