I recently read the book titled Let's Roll Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage by Lisa Beamer. Lisa Beamer is a homemaker, mother and widow of Todd Beamer. Her husband Todd Beamer was on flight 93, the plane that went down in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania on 9-11. It is a tear jerking book about her family and all they went through before, during, and after 9-11. The entire crew and passengers perished on that day and I don't think we will ever know for sure everything that happened to them as the tragedy unfolded. Several of the passengers were able to call loved ones on cell phones during the flight; none of them knew for sure what was happening to them.

Todd was on a business fight to San Francisco, California on the morning that the plane was taken hostage. Todd had left early in the morning and he let Lisa sleep in since they just arrived home from a trip to Rome the night before. Lisa wasn't even sure what plane Todd was on since he flew so often she didn't always keep track of where he was going. Eventually she found out that flight 93 was the flight Todd was on; the plane that went down in the field in Pennsylvania. She sat in her bedroom alone till she could move again, it wasdevastating to hear such news. Todd and Lisa had planned out there lives together and this was not in the plan.

The days that followed the crash were very busy with people coming in and out of the house and a trip that all the relatives of the people on flight 93 were invited to. Lisa was pregnant with there third child at the time but she went to the crash site anyway. She would have there third child four months later a girl they already have two boys. The spot where the plane went down looked like a big hole in the earth shaped like a plane. Many of the families of the flight 93 victims were there, it was a tearful event.

Takeaways
  • Lets Roll is a tear jerking book.
  • Lisa was interview many times over the next months
  • I would recommend this book for anyone interested in the 9-11 tragedy
Did You Know?
37 people died on flight 93.
