Bigfoot Found, Chupacabra Sighting, Montauk Monster Missing

We Want to Believe

"Bigfoot Found," the headlines blast. Bigfoot searchers claim not only to have seen the beast according to published reports but to have seen several at once in Northern Georgia, USA. And they claim to have found a bigfoot body which they sent for DNA testing. The searchers know the

results of the tests on the bigfoot body, of course, but they don't plan to release the evidence that bigfoot has been found- or not- until their Friday press conference.

A police officer and a former corrections officer are behind the claims that bigfoot has been found. Matthew Whitten, Clayton County, Georgia police officer, and Rick Dyer, a former corrections officer have been on the trail of Bigfoot for years and operate a company called Searching for Bigfoot, Inc.

The alleged bigfoot body found in Georgia is said to be 7 feet tall, over 500 pounds and covered in reddish hair. Searching for Bigfoot, Inc. says the bigfoot creatures walk upright and have teeth and feet that are more similar to humans than apes.

While the Georgians clamor over their dead bigfoot body, the Texans are not to be outdone. Nope, down there in Texas folks are touting another chupacabra sighting. This chupacabra sighting was made by a sheriff's deputy who captured a video of what he said was a hairless, long-snouted animal, like a coyote but not one.

Sheriff Brandon Riedell and Ellie Carter were the police involved in the chupacabra sighting. Carter said she recognized the animal as a chupacabra from an episode of Monsterquest on the History Channel, according to a story in the Sun.

Is it surprising that news of bigfoot found and a chupacabra sighting follow on the heels of last week's news that the Monster of Montauk was missing? The Monster of Montauk was big news for a few weeks, and just when it started looking like it might be proved to be a dead racoon, it's body disappeared. The Montauk Monster's disappearance from cyberlife apparently left a void, one that was quickly filled by a dead bigfoot and a chupacabra sighting.

I think the stresses that continue to pile on all of us over the last few years have driven us all collectively insane. The very first "discoverer" of Bigfoot confessed that it was all a hoax - and a hilarious one - just before he died. To make the joke even better, nobody listened to him. People want to believe so badly, they'll keep the faith without any shred of evidence at all, and even ignore incontrovertible evidence to the contrary. Sure, we all have a need to believe in things unexplainable - maybe a result of all those childhood fairy tales at bedtime? - but why do we cling to the most improbable of these kinds of ideas? Why do we use other peoples' ideas at all, instead of inventing our own? Does hearing it from another make it seem more credible? Does knowing that others believe too make it seem more real?

It does seem to be an odd phenomenon that people need. You can do a search specific to Big Foot sightings on Google. Little did I know he has also been seen about two blocks away from here, before all of the building - of course.
