I watch a whole lot of television, too much probably. But hey, at least now I can actually make some money off it by writing about it right? So that's what I'm going to do. I decided I would share with you all what I feel are the ten best television shows this year. When coming up with my list I had about twelve shows up for consideration but two fell short. So apologies to Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Prison Break, I like your shows but they just don't quite cut it.

10. Scrubs
I was actually late to Scrubs, watching it for the first time this past year. I'm sorry it took me so long to catch it because it's a pretty funny show. The writers for this show are geniuses and among the best writers in television. However, I'm not crazy about the main cast. I find Zach Braff to be ok at best and kind of annoying a lot of the time and Sarah Chalke and Judy Reyes' characters are not likable or interesting. But the writing is so good that I like the show even though I don't like three-fourths of the main cast. Really the stars of the show are Neil Flynn and John C. McGinley who steal every scene they are in with the main four. Also this show has guest stars galore: Scott Foley, Michael J. Fox, Amy Smart, Brendan Frasier, Tara Reid, and Heather Graham to name a few.

My picks for the best TV of 2006.

Takeaways
  • Lost is still the most consistently good show
  • Monk does the best job of combining a serious story with humorous story.
  • Veronica Mars would've been my favorite show if this season wasn't so bad.

Great article but have to disagree with you about Dwight from The Office ... he's laugh-out-loud funny -- the best character on TV today (actually tied with Alec Baldwin's character on 30 Rock)!

Oliver - Is Veronica Mars the character better than Jack Bauer? Of course not. Is Vernoica Mars the show better than 24? Absolutely. Jack Bauer rocks but this was the poorest season of 24 so far. 1. The President this season was the biggest dumbass in the history of 24, making him the mastermind was totally unbelievable. 2. They killed off all the interesting likable character like President Palmer and Tony. 3. Other than Jack the show is now filled with uninteresting, annoying and unlikable characters like Chloe, Audrey, Edgar, Bill, President Logan, Erin and Lynn. So yeah Jack is cool but I'll take the show with a cast of interesting characters over a show with one good character.

Judith - Yes I watch Gilmore Girls. I know it's a chick show but the dialogue is the best written dialogue in television and I like good writing. Heather - I know I said I just started watching Scrubs this year but I didn't mean I had only season this season. I actually went back and watched the entire show from beginning to end this year and never liked Elliot, JD or Carla at any point in the show. Also, I really like How I Met Your Mother when I've seen it but it comes on the same time as other things I watch so I don't always see it.

Damn I have only watched one of those shows ever (Smallville) and found it ok at best. Nice article though.

I love your choices. Some of them didn't make my list only because I took out certain categories like reality shows that don't run a full season. Otherwise, mine would have included American Idol and Dancing With the Stars. I also LOVE Smallville as well but I missed so many episodes this year because it was on against something else I watch; so I didn't list it. As for Scrubs, I couldn't find it have the time but that might have been a local issue. Anyway, great job! Take a look at my list if you get a chance.

Lee: Great list. I haven't actually seen most of these shows. I agree about Monk though - great humorous mystery show. I do like crime dramas, so my list would be much different. It's interesting to see what other people like. Good writing.

Dwight ridiculous? Yes, but I love to hate him, and that makes him great. I'll agree on Lost, though. Still my favorite....Good article.

Geez! I haven't watched any of these.

Veronica Mars ranked higher than Gilmore Girls?!? Are you CRAZY?!?! I'd seriously rethink the ordering. ;)

Wow, GIlmore Girls? Even I don't watch that! Heroes is the best show in a long time. Try watching Scrubs from the beginning and you may like the characters more. Spike is my secret crush so of course I loved James Marsters on Smallville. I watch SMallville anyway. I also love Supernatural, Desperate Housewives, Survivor, ANTM, CSI, How I Met Your Mother, and The Class. Yes, too much time on my hands but tivo lets me forward through the commercials so that saves time!
