Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy to Return for Dallas Reunion

"Mom, can I watch Dallas with you?" I remember asking my mother when I was a little girl. Not quite old enough to appreciate Dallas for the television phenomenon it was, I was able to grasp that my parents spent one night a

week with friends, glued to the television watching the show. That was enough for me to want to join in, falling in love with Larry Hagman's JR Ewing and Patrick Duffy's Bobby Ewing before I even knew what love was. Thanks to the release of Dallas on DVD box sets and the upcoming 30th reunion of the popular television series, I can finally catch up on the show that hooked my parents in my youth.

Dallas was a popular primetime soap opera, airing from 1978 until 1991. The series included an all-star cast, including Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy, both of whom are well known for the characters they portrayed. In fact, the fictional Ewing family helped Hagman and Duffy become household names. Between Larry Hagman's sneaky JR and loveable Bobby played by Patrick Duffy, the primetime soap opera caught the attention of young adults during much of the eighties.

In recent years, with the release of Dallas on DVD box sets and re-runs on cable television, the show has surged again in popularity. Adults who remember watching the show with spouses, neighbors, and friends are pulled in, and so are younger adults like myself who missed out on the show during its heyday.

The 30th reunion show is set to air on November 8th. The Associated Press reports that Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy have confirmed that they will appear. The reunion is actually open to the public, and fans can get tickets for as little as $100 for the event. It will be held at Southfork Ranch, home to the Ewing family during the series.

The reunion promises to be fun for old and new fans of Dallas. Thanks to DVD box sets, television re-runs, and an upcoming reunion show, I can finally appreciate Dallas as an adult, like my mother did when she was my age. The show has passed from one generation to the next, and Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy's names will live on like the characters they created.

That first sentence makes me feel OLD. You were a little girl then? Ouch.

I used to watch this show and enjoyed it but I think it might be time to let it go. A reunion show might be trying to squeeze blood from a turnip.
