Design of Gazebo Columns and Panels

Integrate Your Gazebo Design with Existing Buildings

When designing components for your new gazebo you need to make sure the components compliment each other. You also need to make sure the over all design compliments your garden, yard and any other buildings within sight of the gazebo. The columns, or posts, are
an integral part of your gazebo. They can be as simple in design as solid or laminated 4x4" wood or even larger in size. Often the central posts are faced with either brick or wood lattice work. Columns designed with lattice facing are great for getting colorful flowering plants involved in the show aspect of your gazebo. Imagine a gazebo with each column a wonderful explosion of color. The lattice work needs to be made of good strong material so that it can hold the weight of growing plants. It also needs to be fastened in a manner that allows the lattice to be removed at least every other year to allow for checking and maintenance on the central column or post.

The same thing goes for the panels. You need to decide what the panels will be used for, as far as involvement in design and presentation of the gazebo. Solid panels might contain a city logo or family crest in the center of some, or all, of the panels. There might be one panel with a built in glass fronted message board or sign so that various events or names of performers playing might be displayed.

Another great idea is to build the panels with removable inserts that can come out of the frame. These type panels be custom decorated according to the season or event taking place in the gazebo or garden area. Often the same outdoor canvas that can be used for gazebo roofing can be incorporated into the design and use of the side panels. Also, the same type lattice work as used on columns and posts can be used on side panels.

Depending on the overall design of your gazebo you maybe able to utilize hand made wrought iron flower bezier to hold potted flowers or flowering vine plants. The vines will climb up and around the gazebo in wonderful color.
