I haven't been getting jelly for a very long time. I happen to look at the ingredients of whatever jelly I had at the time and was appalled to find that jelly is essentially corn syrup, sugar, food coloring and some artificial flavors. Since then, I have been using alternatives to jelly for anything in place that I normally would have used jelly and I have not missed it. While at my friend's the other day I noticed their jelly, and they told me that it tasted really good. I couldn't help myself and had to look at the ingredients. To be completely fair to the jelly though, I decided to sample it before actually reading the ingredients. A closer look the container revealed that the jelly was not jelly and instead was Danish Orchards Strawberry Premium Fruit Preserves. In all honestly I actually thought that the jelly tasted good and I wouldn't have thought of corn syrup while I was eating it. The strawberry taste was subtle and the sweetness of the preserves were pretty overwhelming. This gave me some hope that maybe I would actually find that fruit was used in the making of Danish Orchards Strawberry Premium Fruit Preserves, but I also assumed that sugar would be one of the top ingredients. I was very glad to see that strawberries were the very first ingredient listed and I wasn't surprised to see that sugar was the second ingredient listed. The rest of the ingredients that followed were glucose syrup, water, fruit juice, fruit pectin, citric acid, potassium sorbate that is used as a preservative and xanthan gum. Honestly these ingredients were not all that bad, I have seen much, much worse. I was very pleased. With some peanut butter and in between some bread the sweetness that the strawberry preserves had was not as present and the overall taste was better. In addition to looking over the ingredients of the strawberry preserves I looked at the nutrition facts.
