How to Care for a New Ear Piercing
It seems that everyone is getting their ears pierced. From grandmothers to infants, the trend to decorate ear lobes has grown over the year. At one time it was a novelty to have your ears pierced. Not any more. Not it is the norm and for many peoples a required part of their life. No
matter where you get your ear pierced, there are a few things that you need to know about how to care for the fresh piercing. Most people choose to get their ears pierced at mall or have their infants ears done at the doctor's office. The person that pierces your ears will probably give you a brief and quick description of how to care for your ear piercing. This is not enough information for people who are new to having their ears pierced.
Step One
When you arrive home from having receiving your ear piercing, you will need to start the care of your piercing right away. Take a cotton swab and dip it into some peroxide. Wipe the front and back of both piercings. These are open wounds and need to be kept clean so that they do not get infected.
Step Two
At night before you go to bed and when you wake up you need to add the care of your ear piercing to your routine. You will need to wipe the back and the front of your ear piercing with peroxide. This will clean out any dirt in the piercing. Turn the earring one full turn while it is kept in your ear. This will prevent the skin from growing around the earring as your piercing heals.
Step Three
Limit the use of hairspray, other hair products, and perfume around your ears while your ear piercing is healing. These products can get into the piercing and cause your ears to become infected. It is best to not use these products at all when your ear piercing is healing.
Step Four
Clean your ear piercing with peroxide after you get out of the shower. Shampoo and other cleanser that you use in the shower can get in your piercing and cause infection.
Step Five
Repeat this process for 6 to 8 weeks. Do not remove your earrings during this time while your piercing is healing. It is important to follow these care instructions so that your ear piercing does not get infected.
