Walmart has been getting a lot of negative publicity in recent years. From the lack of medical benefits for employees to the weakening of customer service, Walmart has been pushing its customers farther away. For every negative news-break, Walmart has fired back by lowering prices. It is apparent that Walmart is reaching to keep its customers. Perhaps there is a much better route to go to help keep customers.

For starters, Walmart has been lowering its customer service standards. Walmart stores are adding more self check-out lanes, and are using less cashiers. Customers want to know that they can be helped if needed, but Walmart is instead pushing for customers to help themselves as much as possible.

Return policies are another big problem at Walmart. While most stores are opting to have their return policy printed on their receipts, where customers can take the time to read it before making a return, Walmart opts to have their return policy printed only on signs near the customer service desk. If a customer needs to make a return, he or she is often turned away after taking the item to the store.

Walmart also no longer stands behind the quality of the clothing is sells. If an item of clothing falls apart during its first washing, it cannot be returned. No matter what the problem is, and whether or not the receipt is brought in with the product, Walmart will not accept a return without the original tags on the item.

Going into the SuperWalmart stores can be nightmare no matter what time of day! Rather than having their employees stock products during slow periods, such as the middle of the night, Walmart has its employees stock shelves during the busiest hours. Aisles are often blocked by crates and carts full of unstocked merchandise, making the store hard to maneuver through.

I completely agree with you! I hate self-checkout lanes, because something always goes wrong and then you have to stand there and wait for somebody to come over and fix it!! excellent article, I'm passing this on to some of my Walmart-shopping friends =)

As if they had enough cashiers in the first place! I agree with you.

wal-mart is seeing the tide turn against it on some levels...for example, their sales are down for this holiday season so far. And they are being successfully kept out of some towns. But there is still much more that needs to be done. Wal-mart needs to be forced to be more responsible for their employees and their health. And the people that work there need to take a good look at unionizing...
