Why You Can Skip The Cancun Experience

Cancun is a wildly popular tourist city in Mexico. Thousands upon thousands of US citizens and Europeans alike travel to the resort town every year. It is one of the largest destinations for US college students on Spring Break. No matter for what reason you plan on traveling to Cancun (even if you are a college student), there are much better alternatives.

1. The myth of Cancun as the best Spring Break destination. First off, if your intention on Spring Break is simply to get drunk and party, save your money. Go to Panama Beach, Florida. You'll save yourself a lot of money, have just as good of a time, and you'll help better the US reputation in Mexico (which can use all of the help it can get right now). If you are planning on going to Cancun for Spring Break and plan on doing anything other than go to clubs, drink, and party, good luck! You are better off going to some Caribbean island or traveling to another city in Mexico.

2. There are much better Caribbean destinations than Cancun, including others in Mexico. If you really want to travel to the Caribbean, spend a little more money and travel to the Bahamas, Aruba, the Cayman Islands, etc. It will be worth it. If you want a Caribbean vacation in Mexico, you are better off traveling the port town of Progresso or the island of Cozumel (both still in the Yucatan). Both offer the same recreational opportunities as Cancun, but they also offer an authentic Mexican experience, something Cancun can't offer.

3. Thinking of spending your honeymoon in Cancun? You can spend your money more wisely. Cancun still happens to be a pretty popular honeymoon destination, but there are lots of ways a couple can spend their honeymoon more effectively. If you are set on a Caribbean honeymoon, check out my suggestions above. Also, consider a packaged deal to Europe, a cruise, or a road trip out west. Just about any other trip will offer a more memorable experience - more adventure, more culture, etc. Cancun is geared towards young college students who are looking for a good time. Not exactly the most romantic place for a honeymoon.
