Hoffspace: Social Networking for David Hasselhoff Fans
I have accounts at Myspace and Facebook that I check religiously. Social networks have become my downfall. When I saw this morning that there was a new social network out there, I couldn't resist taking a few minutes to
check it out. Hoffspace is the newest social network, bringing people across the world together by a common love of David Hasselhoff. Yes--seriously.
Tech Digest announced this morning that David Hasselhoff had launched Hoffspace. The website is set up to allow anyone to join, watch exclusive videos, share content, post in forums, make friends, and more. Like any other social network, the goal of Hoffspace is to allow people to socialize over the Internet. When talking about Hoffspace, David Hasselhoff asserts about the new website, "where it will lead, I don't know but the world would be a better place if everyone talked a little more to each other..."
Will Hoffspace draw traffic away from Myspace and Facebook? Doubtful. But expect the number of members to grow quickly as the website gets more press and attention. Registering for a quick peak at what David Hasselhoff and his team have put together is worth it, even for people who aren't a fan of The Hoff. The website doesn't offer anything really ingenious that would pull Internet users away from other social networking websites, but simply unites them by a common interest.
Hoffspace isn't a unique concept, as many websites have decided to add components of social networking to their layouts in order to draw traffic to their pages. Ravelry, a popular knitting website, has done this. Ravelry has created opportunities for users to friend each other, favorite projects, lightheartedly stalk one another for project, yarn, and pattern ideas, and post in forums and groups where they share interests. It isn't set up to be "the social networking site for knitters," but that is what's happened in many regards. Internet users want to socialize, and bringing them together over a shared interest seems to be the way to go.
