RuneScape: Jagex to Introduce New PvP Worlds to Replace the Wilderness
When RuneScape did away with the Wilderness and player killing (Pking) there was a large outcry among the players of RuneScape about the changes. A lot of players left the game and people began to say that RuneScape was dying. Jagex rushed the summoning skill to try to quell the exodus, but the requests for PvP (player vs player) kept coming, and now Jagex is doing something to satisfy these PvP requests; introducing new PvP worlds in which players can attack each other.
Apparently what caused Jagex to eliminate the wilderness was some RuneScape players were using dying as a way to give other players RuneScape wealth in exchange for real world money without using the trade window. Jagex also installed a trade limit of 3,000gp and replaced death by NPC (Non-player character) drops with gravestones.
According to the August 15th, 2008 announcement on RuneScape's main page, plans are in the making for entire PvP worlds like there was in the very early days of RuneScape. Entrance to these worlds will be optional; you will get a warning to switch worlds or enter at your own risk. That way, players won't accidentally enter these RuneScape worlds and get mauled.
A player will be able to attack other players in 99% of the world, including the old wilderness. Imagine a brawl breaking out in the center of varrock or east ardougne and players having to steal cakes to heal their health while dodging their enemies. Apparently there will be some safe areas for RuneScape players.
Jagex talks about "drop tables" that are based upon the RuneScape character's combat level and the level of the player he kills. Apparently, Jagex is not bringing back the ability of one player to collect the items dropped by the other player. It will be interesting to see if the other player has a chance to reclaim his or her items via gravestone or will the game eat the items.
There will be a level range restriction that will vary depending upon the area that restricts you from being attacked by players whose level is greater or lesser than yours. Some areas will allow for a wider range of player level difference.
