Go, Diego, Go!: Diego's Moonlight Rescue
On Monday, August 18, 2008, Nickelodeon had the primetime debut for the hour-long Go, Diego, Go! special, "Diego's Moonlight Rescue." It's an hour-long special, but after I finished watching it, I thought some sections were stretched out in order to fill the hour-long runtime. I also
would have cut back a little on the musical numbers in order to get it down to the length of a regular episode. Overall, I think the story would have been stronger if it had only run for half an hour.
The story begins with Diego and his family gathering at the beach one night for Moonlight Story Time. Their leatherback sea turtle friend is supposed to be joining them, but she is late. They hear her cry for help, and they ask Luna (the moon) to shine brighter so they can find her. They see the turtle is trapped in a plastic bag, and that the current is pushing her away. Diego and Alecia jump into the rescue boat, and Alecia uses her Rescue Rope to save the turtle and tow her safely to shore.
They return to the beach, where Diego has a story he made up for Moonlight Story Time. Diego's story ends up being what we see for most of the special. Diego and the sea turtle are at the beach, waiting for some baby sea turtles to hatch out of their eggs. The eggs hatch, but the baby turtles are lost. Diego and the turtle sing a song about the baby turtles needing to follow Luna's light to find their way. At the end of the song, a comet rushes in and accidentally bumps into Luna. As a result, Luna breaks apart into four pieces and falls into the ocean. Diego uses Click the Camera to find where Luna's four pieces are. He prints out a copy of the picture, which is used in this story in much the same way his cousin Dora uses Map in her show.
