Will Role in Bigfoot Hoax Cost Matt Gary Whitten?

The sensational Bigfoot hoax of 2008 is over and the uproar is subsiding, but it may just be starting for Matt Gary Whitten. Whitten one of the two Georgia men who claimed to be in possession of a Bigfoot body in July is a Clayton County, Georgia, Deputy Sherriff. His complicity in the Bigfoot hoax may wind up costing him his law enforcement job.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Whitten's employer Clayton County Sheriff Jeff Turner has already gone on record as saying Whitten's claims of finding Bigfoot are going to have to be addressed at some point. "Unfortunately", said Turner, "that's spilling over into his police life and that's where we have concerns".

Turner's office has been bombarded with e-mails and calls from critical doubters, both in the media and the public, since Whitten and Dyer claimed they had a Bigfoot body back in July. After Whitten and Dyer's recent Bigfoot press conference, remarkable only for proving what a hoax the whole story had been, the volume of those negative e-mails and calls are sure to increase.

If that weren't enough Whitten has admitted that a video, filmed by Whitten and Dyer on YouTube featuring an interview with "scientist, Dr. Paul Van Buren," was a fraud. VanBuren claims to have seen the Bigfoot corpse then afterwards says, "After seeing the corpse it's obviously a male, we looked at a very, very large primate male, it doesn't fit into any of the taxonomic groups I can think of. Unbelievable, I'm still shaking... I've never seen anything like this before."
The man who held himself out as Dr Van Buren was later determined to be Matt Gary Whitton's brother, Martin.

In a second YouTube video Whitten and Dyer said the video was intended as a counter-attack of sorts to all those in the "Bigfoot world" who had been harrassing and stalking the pair.
