Olympic Soccer Semifinal: Argentina vs. Brazil
If you're going to watch an Olympic soccer match, Argentina playing Brazil is pretty much the best match-up you could hope for. Unfortunately, if you saw today's semi-final game, you might have been disappointed. To sum up:
Argentina ran away with three goals to Brazil's zero. The first two goals, scored by Aguero, were controversial (the first looked like a hand-ball and the second looked off-sides) but definitely made it clear that Brazil was out of the game. The last goal was a penalty kick, taken and scored by Argentinean captain Riquelme. If you like watching soccer, you would've been entertained by Argentina.
But what about the world soccer power of Brazil? What about Ronaldinho? Well, once again (just like in any Olympic competition) the announcers, though very opinionated, were wrong about the favorites. The whole match, all I hear is the announcer (the name escapes me) struggling through Argentinean names and even some Brazilians until the magnificent Ronaldinho gets the ball. His possesion of the ball is of course short lived because he is so good, so Argentina double teams him. Sure he's one of the greatest players, but it's a little ridiculous at times when announcers get behind him.
Though I complain about the commentating at the Olympics, a great addition to the microphone was Marcelo Balboa, former US national team defender and captain. Every time the other announcer (I really could care less who he is) made a comment, Balboa would usually have to jump in and correct what he said. But enough about commentating.
